About Us

Boy Scouting is for boys who are 11, or are at least 10 years old and have completed the fifth grade or have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award, through 17 years old.

Boys experience a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster to achieve the BSA's objectives of developing character, citizenship, and personal fitness. The boys will enjoy camping, fun with friends and more. It’s the adventure of a lifetime.

Troop 144 of Pompton Plains, New Jersey celebrates over 50 years of Boy Scouting. Based at First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains, Troop & Crew 144 is a large active Boy Scout organization in Northern Morris County. We are part of the Fishawack district of Patriots Path Council. This is a "boy led" Troop with emphasis on teaching leadership ability as well as other important life skills and values. Outdoor adventures, service projects and other events are scheduled year-round, with at least one each month. It's not uncommon to have as many as three different outings and projects the boys can choose from each month.

There are also weekly Troop meetings where scouts can socialize and work on advancements and merit badges. Meetings are held, when the public schools are in session on Monday evening 7:00 P.M., at Grace Chapel of the First Reformed Church located at 529 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Pompton Plains, N.J. 07444

In addition to the traditional Boy Scout Troop, this organization also includes a Venturing Crew open to high school men and women. Many of the "V-crew's" activities involve high adventure skills such as rock climbing or wilderness camping. Peter M. Roby is the Scoutmaster, leading a dedicated trained team of parents who are involved as committee members, assistant Scoutmasters and volunteers both men and women serving with Edward White as the Troop Committee Chair.
